TOMS RIVER — The Barnegat Boys Basketball team rode up to Toms River Monday night to take on the Mariners of Toms River North in the opening round of the Shore Conference Pod “B” Tournament. The Bengals were the No.6 seed, and the Mariners were the No.3 seed.

The Mariners and the Bengals paced each other throughout the entirety of the game, keeping the score within less than eight points. The Mariners led 11-7 entering the second quarter and then Tyler Quinn ended the first half with a 3-pointer to tie the game at 24.

In the second half the Bengals put the pressure on to hold the Mariners to five. It was a battle from both ends of the court in a two possession game. The Bengals tried to save the game with a timeout 25.5 seconds left, but those two last Toms River North foul shots would be just enough for the Mariners to walk away with the 53-47 win.
