Barnegat, New Jersey - Barnegat Police Chief Keith Germaine is well aware that parents are concerned about police activity at the middle school. In response to perceived issues on social media, local police worked with the Board of Education to investigate the area.

On the Barnegat Police Department's Facebook page, Chief Germaine released the following statement:

"Our agency was contacted by the Barnegat School District about a safety concern brought to their attention by students.

As always, we take all reports of this nature seriously, regardless of any corroborating evidence or lack thereof.

In response to this report, and out of an abundance of caution, we have leveraged our partnerships with the Barnegat School District and our law enforcement partners to conduct a thorough safety evaluation and assessment of the Brackman school this evening to ensure that there is no threat to students or staff.

I am keenly aware of the concerns that parents have for the safety of their children when rumors are flying around their and their children’s social media. We will continue to leverage the formidable capabilities of our law enforcement community to give parents and students the peace of mind that they deserve when sending their children to our district schools.

Our thanks to Dr. Latwis and the Barnegat School District for providing the excellent communication and support that we need to quickly and thoroughly address safety concerns in the district.

Chief Germain"
