MEDFORD — The Southern Regional Girls Volleyball team defeated Cherokee after losing game one 26-24. The Rams roared back and won the second game 26-24 and 25-20. The victory gives Southern the South Jersey Group IV championship.
The Rams only blemish this season to their 17-1 record was a loss to the same Cherokee a few weeks back.
Tonight, the Rams avenged that loss in the championship contest.
“I could not be prouder of these girls. We talk about not giving up and working hard every day in practice. We talk about all the little things that go into winning championships,” said Coach Eric Maxwell
“Tonight we put all of those lessons to the test. Lost game one and trailed in gave two 22-24,” Maxwell cotinued.
“But we stuck together and just kept competing. We were able to break through. In our minds there was no way we would be denied it gave three. This was a classic battle in which we needed every bit of everyone's contributions. I am so happy for these girls.”
Stephanie Soares had 41 assists and 10 digs. Rachael Pharo had 24 kills and 14 digs. Madison Gellis had 16 digs and Adrianna Conforti had 15 to lead the Lady Rams.
Tomorrow, Coach Eric Maxwell moves on to the coach the Southern boys squad.
Congratulations to Coach Maxwell and the entire Southern team.
