WARETOWN, NJ – It was important enough that it made it first on the agenda of the Ocean Township’s September Committee meeting. The Mayor and Committee proudly recognized the Waretown Thunder Girls Softball Team and presented them with a commemorative plaque.

Each of the team members received an individual acknowledgement of their participation in the Babe Ruth World Series. In addition to the team plaque, the players received a certificate signed by the Township Committee.

Mayor Ben Loparo first read the official proclamation to the Waretown Thunder 16U team members. “The team is a team rich in tradition of excellence and accomplishment in competition,reflecting the highest ideals of hard work, training and sportsmanship.” read Loparo.

Waretown Thunder 16U competed and achieved second place in the Diamond bracket of the Babe Ruth competition. Notably, they also walked away with the Sportsmanship Award for the entire 16U Division.

Courtney Schreir and Rebekka Conrad achieved 1st Team Offensive World Series. Coaches Don Skellinger, Richard Conrad and Tiffany Williams, Team Manager Mark Houck and the members of the team Alyssa Houck,, Courtney Schreier,, Kaylee Machnowski, Briana Patrone, Chloe Hayek, Mckenzie Horay, Kayla Graver, Rebekka Conrad, Allison Westman, Kaitlyn Edwards,, Athena Kozlowski, Amber Skellinger, Megan Campanile, Nettie Campanile exceled in the competition

According to their web page, the group is a travel team that plays an aggressive schedule in the fall, spring and the summer seasons. They also practice indoors during the winter season.

In addition to recognizing players, the Committee also expressed its appreciation to the coaches and team manager, who dedicated their time to working with the team.
