NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - TAPinto has been selected as the winner of the Sustain Local Award in the fourth annual 2021 Excellence in Local News Awards from the Center for Cooperative Media. 

The awards are presented in “categories based on key areas of focus for NJ News Commons members, a network of nearly 400 news organizations and freelancers across New Jersey,” according to the Center for Cooperative Media, the organization that facilitates the contest.

The Sustain Local award is presented to “a journalist(s) or news organization that found innovative and effective new ways to address revenue and sustainability issues.”

TAPinto’s participation in the Local Media Association’s Branded Content Project enabled the company to develop a paid social media component to its content marketing offerings for businesses and organizations, according to the 2021 Excellence in Local News Awards announcement. 

The project has been profiled by the Local Media Association and the Lenfest Institute, among others.

TAPinto’s strategy was to build on an already-functioning revenue stream within its franchisee ecosystem. Using Facebook’s API, TAPinto connected the world’s most popular social media network to its do-it-yourself content marketing platform, allowing businesses, nonprofits and governments to have content published on TAPinto’s local sites and also pay for a sponsored “Paid Partnership” Facebook post of that content. 

“We are committed to providing our marketing partners with effective advertising opportunities to fit a variety of budgets,” Shapiro said. “This Facebook integration allows businesses, both large and small, to directly reach local audiences at an affordable price.”

TAPinto’s state-of-the-art e-blast system, a digital alternative to advertising inserts and coupons, won the 2020 Sustain Local Award.
