OCEAN COUNTY, NJ – Governor Phil Murphy and associates did not give their usual press conference today. However, new figures statewide show that there are 2,316 new positive COVID-19 positive test results. This number adds to New Jersey’s rank as second in the nation with confirmed cases of the potentially deadly virus. The new additions bring the total to 13,286.
“Sadly, we lost 21 more New Jerseyans to COVID-19 related complications,” tweeted Murphy. This increases the statewide death toll to 161 lost lives. It is unclear whether any new Ocean County residents have died since yesterday.
During the preliminary release of numbers, the state attempts to divide up cases by county numbers. While the state lists Ocean County with 759 confirmed cases, these numbers regularly change after more defined calculations are made. The Ocean County Health Department reports 835 cases.
According to information provided by the Ocean County Health Department, Barnegat currently has no new positive test results, which keeps the total at 20. In Ocean Township (Waretown), there are also no additional positive tests, leaving the total at 4.
Barnegat Police Chief Keith Germain reiterated his plea since the first appearance of the virus. “People need to recognize what is really essential,” he said. “The Governor's stay at home order will help contain the community spread.”
Population plays a big part when it comes to analyzing the numbers and attributing ratio percentages. In Ocean County, Lakewood continues to have the most positive tests. According to the health department, 99 new positive results are confirmed, bringing the community’s total to 371.
Notably, the other two northern Ocean County municipalities with higher incidences of the disease are also the most populated. Toms River now has 15 new cases for a total of 106. Brick has an additional 9 and has reached 81 confirmed test results. A complete breakdown of the county’s numbers follows:
|Town Name||Number of Cases|
|Little Egg Harbor||7|
|Long Beach Township||3|
|Ocean Twp. (Waretown)||4|
|Point Pleasant Beach||3|
|Point Pleasant Borough||22|
