OCEAN COUNTY, NJ - Since the first reports of COVID-19 in the state, the goal has always been to flatten the curve. Without a vaccine, the best tool to keep the spread of the disease has been to limit exposure. The mechanism has been shutting down everything but essential services and calling for social distancing. Masks are also encouraged to protect others.
Long term care facilities represent a percentage of both the confirmed cases and deaths throughout Ocean County. Recently, the federal government transferred a number of PPEs to various LTCs. Today, Governor Murphy announced the National Guard would step in to provide assistance.
In Ocean County, the number of new positive tests was just 77, for a cumulative total of 7192. Barnegat is up one to just 208, while Ocean Township (Waretown) continues to hold steady at 40. Lacey increased with seven more confirmed cases 180. Stafford now has 192 positive test results with the addition of five new cases.
As of today, the Ocean County Health Department reports a total of 502 COVID-related deaths. Lakewood now has 103 fatalities, followed by Brick with 88, and Toms River with 85.
