OCEAN COUNTY, NJ - Reality sets in closer to home with news from the Ocean County Health Department. Their announcement of the first COVID-related death adds to the tally of nine deaths reported in the state.
"The Ocean County Health Department is not releasing the individual's municipality of residence at this time." says the statement released on the health department's Facebook. "The decedent is a person who was high risk based on age with underlying medical conditions."
Earlier today, Governor Phil Murphy's office released information regarding up to date counts. At that time, there were 33 confirmed cases in Ocean County. In Southern Ocean County, a resident from Surf City came back positive.
UPDATED: As of 4:30pm, the Ocean County Health Department reports 48 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Two are from Barnegat. Here is a complete breakdown:
