BARNEGAT, NJ – It wasn’t just the action on the field that mattered yesterday in the world of professional football. Following its annual tradition, the NFL also announced 2020 inductees to its Hall of Fame. What better time for Barnegat Schools to seek nominations for its own honorary recognition.
The Barnegat Township Schools Hall of Fame represents a collaboration between the Barnegat Education Association (BEA) and the Barnegat Township Schools. The initiative began last year with a simple mission. The goal is to publicly thank, recognize and honor, outstanding and memorable staff or volunteers who have made a significant impact on students and our school district alike.
BEA representative William “Chip” Junker shared some of the details concerning the impetus of Barnegat’s Hall of Fame. “I went through Barnegat schools,” said Junker. “I know that we have a great many people who have contributed to the success of our students.”
Historically, Barnegat has named classrooms and buildings after teachers who have impacted the district. Junker is quick to point out that it’s not just teachers who make a difference. “Our rewards are essentially non-tangible,” Junker shared. “I suggested the Hall of Fame as an acknowledgment – to show that work and dedication do matter.”
Last year, Junker presented the idea to the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education. Not surprisingly, the concept caught fire.
Referred to as the Class of 2019, the inaugural Hall of Fame inductees included six individuals. You can read more about Holly Carson, Frank Constantine, Cynthia Corle, Louise Muth, Joseph Papernik, and Rosalind Ribaudo on the school district’s website.
Now in its second year, the public is invited to offer names of candidates who deserve a spot in the Barnegat Township School District’s Hall of Fame. A parent may remember a counselor who helped a child overcome insecurity. Students may recall a teacher who made learning easier. The list of examples goes on concerning those who influenced young lives for the better.
Nominees to the Barnegat Township Schools Hall of Fame must have ten years of work or volunteer experience within the Barnegat school district. Guidelines and nomination forms are available for review and completion. All nominations must be submitted by March 1, 2020.
