MANAHAWIN, NJ - The Barnegat High School Bengals Marching Band and entourage didn’t have to travel far for their most recent competition. The Southern Regional High School Golden Rams hosted its 27th Annual "Sounds of the Shore" Tournament of Bands on its home turf. And, the Bengals walked away with more than one award.
A total of eleven bands took center stage and performed amazing sounds, as well as showcasing colors and moves. The Marching Bengals competes in Group 1-A, together with four other high school marching bands. In the end, Barnegat finished in first place with a score of 82.755. The other schools vying against the Bengals received the following scores:
81.210 – Hammonton
79.325 - Brick Township
75.425 – Overbrook
73.280 - Maple Shade
In the Group 1-A Division, Barnegat also received recognition with the High Auxiliary Caption Award for Best Color Guard. Brick Township won for High Percussion.
The Marching Bengals presented their 2019 Field Show "Classic Schizophrenia" that took the audience on a journey through the Classical Era of Music. Familiar masterpieces were performed with an enticing twist.
As of September 22nd, the Marching Bengals are currently ranked third overall out of 36 marching bands in the TOB Group 1A Division. No doubt their success reflects well on the hard work of Band Director Dan McGrath and his assistants.
Hosts Southern Regional Golden Rams competed in Group 3. They performed in “Exhibition” and received a score of 85.35. They are ranked first overall out of 24 marching bands in the TOB Group 3 Division.
While the bands waited for their scores at the "Sounds of the Shore" tournament, the Golden Rams Marching Band led an amazing and fun presentation bringing all of the schools together on the field. It was spectacular.
Barnegat's remaining Tournament of Bands competition performances for the Fall 2019 Season include: Egg Harbor Twp. High School (Saturday September 28th), Deptford High School (October 13th), TOB New Jersey State Championships at Toms River High School North (October 19th), TOB Region 1 Championships at Delsea Regional High School (October 20th), and TOB Atlantic Coast Championships at West Shore Stadium - Camp Hill, PA (October 26th).
