WARETOWN, NJ - Just before the coronavirus crisis shut down the state, Cornerstone at Waretown announced their lottery offering affordable housing. Part of their parent company includes taking care of tenants in different ways. In this case, it means treating residents to a visit from Kona Ice.
Tomorrow, at 12:30 pm, the Kona Ice truck makes a special stop at the Cornerstone at Waretown complex on Route 9. According to Carrie Adragna, property manager for the Walters Group, the company has already ordered and paid for an assortment of the tropical shaved ice products for members of the Cornerstone family.
Richard Hardman owns the Kona Ice franchise in Toms River and communicates with customers via the company's Facebook page. He's quick to point out that there's no need to enter into the debate as far as whether Kona Ice is "Italian Ice" or "Water Ice," Quite simply, tropical shaved ice hits the palette the best in this case.
Prior to the pandemic, Hardman partnered with youth sports, private parties and festivals and parked the Kona Ice Truck to offer treats. However, the business model has changed.
"As it now stands, we set up our schedule according to demand," said Hardman. "We're already booked up for tomorrow in both Barnegat and Waretown. People preorder, and we deliver - just as they would call for a pizza delivery."
