BARNEGAT, NJ - The Barnegat Food Pantry has been helping people since at least 2013. Many have taken advantage of its resources. Donations come from a variety of different places. Sadly, they must temporarily close their doors.

In a Facebook message, the Food Pantry's director, Libby Hammond made the announcement.  "I am very sorry to say the Barnegat Food Pantry is closed until further notice," she said. "I can not put my volunteers and myself in danger. I tried to keep it open at least one day a week but it is just to risky. God Bless everyone and PLEASE stay home."

According to Hammond, the Food Pantry traditionally opened three days a week. She tried to reduce the schedule to one day a week, but is concerned about the risks.  The Pantry also doesn't have enough food to meet the surge in demands.

When the Food Pantry reopens, it will continue to serve Barnegat and Waretown residents, as well as veterans from any community.
