BARNEGAT, NJ - The 2020 New Jersey Primary Elections rescheduled by Executive Order, take place tomorrow and has prompted a local calendar change. Barnegat Township Committee members have postponed their July 7th meeting to Thursday, July 9th at 10:00 am.

The Committee will once again convene in Town Hall without in-person participation from members of the public. Comcast subscribers can watch the meeting live on Channel 22.  Livestream access is also available on the Township’s website.

Residents who wish to comment on agenda items or have other commentary read into the record during the meeting must do so in advance.  Emails directed to clerk@barnegat.net should be sent before 8:00 am on July 9th. The subject line should include a notation: “Public Comment: July 9, 2020.”

This month’s agenda includes a second reading regarding an amendment and supplement to the Barnegat Code book regarding penalties for “Brush, Weeds, Obnoxious Growth.”   First offenders would face a $500 fine if found guilty of a violation under this section of the code.  A second offense could result in a fine of up to $1,000. Third offenders would not only face $2,000 in fines – but could also risk confinement to the county jail.

Additionally, the Committee will also vote on updating the Violations and Penalties section of the township’s construction ordnance. The penalties for failure to comply with the Construction Code Uniform start off with $500 for the first offense. Second offenders face additional fines and up to 90 days in jail.

Capital improvements under consideration by the Township Committee as it considers apparatus needs for the local fire department.  Approval of the $525,000.00 appropriation would go to the purchase of a 2020 Enforcer Pumper Fire Truck.  The consent agenda includes a resolution authorizing the purchase of fire apparatus in an amount not to exceed $608,622.78, with the bid award to Sourcewell Cooperative.

A list of bills submitted for approval is included on the agenda, which came found on the Township website.   The Consent Agenda contains a number of items that are considered routine by the Township of Barnegat.
