BARNEGAT, NJ – It’s one of the benefits of the Township of Barnegat Committee meeting early in the month. Although National Friends of Libraries Week doesn’t start until October 20th, the Mayor and Committee offered a commemorative plaque to the local library early.
Mayor Al Cirulli made the presentation to Cathy Lynch, Library Assistant of the Ocean County Library, Barnegat Branch. Cirulli read a proclamation praising the Friends of the Library for raising money that enables the library to move from “good to great.”
The fundraising efforts help the library to pay for additional resources, much needed equipment, support for children in reading and special events throughout the year. The Friends of the Library also volunteer their time. Their overall contributions have made the Barnegat Library a cornerstone of the community.
National Friends of the Libraries Week started fourteen years ago. Libraries throughout the United States designate October 20-26, 2019 as a time to celebrate and thank those who help and support them.
