WARETOWN — Antonio (Tony) Fonseca, former Waretown (Ocean Township) Mayor and Committeeman recently passed away.

Fonseca was elected and served Ocean Township from January 1, 1998 through June 2007. He was extremely active in serving his community. He served on the Planning Board, prior to being an elected official. He loved coaching sports and serving the youth of Waretown. 

He served as President of the Waretown Athletic Association (WAA) for many years. Tony was instrumental in building the snack stand at the Ballfields and obtaining the funding for the batting cages donated by US Homes.  He donated his time and labor from his company in building the foundation of the Little Red School House.

The Republican team of Dan Van Pelt, Robert Kraft and Tony Fonseca worked successfully together to obtain the full Parkway interchange and working with US Homes to build Greenbriar Oceanaire.  Tony Fonseca contributed to many other items to improve the quality of life in the Township of Ocean. 

Tony passed away in peace, surrounded by his family.
