BARNEGAT/WARETOWN, NJ - As a result of last night’s storm, 475 Barnegat residences or businesses remain without power supplied by Jersey Central Power & Light.  In Ocean Township, 632 customers have also experienced power outages.  Those looking for approximate reconnect times should log in to their accounts for further information.

“The majority of customers will be restored by late tonight, with customers in the hardest hit areas of Ocean County extending into tomorrow,” advised JCP&L a few minutes ago “For current updates, including crew status, view our map the company’s map at  http://spr.ly/NJOutageMap. Customers can also text STAT to 544487 for updates.

According to the Ocean Township Clerk’s office, residents who are still without power from that community can go to either the Waretown or Lacey Shop Rites to obtain free water and ice.  Barnegat residents who do not have power may also go to the courtesy desk at either of these two Shop Rites and give their address to receive complimentary water and ice.

At today’s Barnegat Township Committee Meeting, Township Municipal Clerk Michele Rivers read from a press release submitted by JCP&L.  The power company offered information to those concerned about service interruptions due to non-payment of bills.  Power shutoffs are currently discontinued.

“Residential customers facing a hardship due to the lack of income during this time should contact the company as soon as they are aware that paying their bill might become difficult,” said JCP&L in a press release. “Options include budget billing, a program that averages usage over 12 months to offer the same bill amount each month, as well as energy assistance programs or other payment arrangements based on customers’ situations and state of residence.”
