BEACH HAVEN - Over one hundred captains, anglers, and guests gathered at the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club last night, July 23. The occasion marked the opening festivities for the 50th annual White Marlin Tournament. The evening was marked by good food, live music, good natured bragging, and a captains’ meeting.
Actual fishing in the big game tournament begins today, Wednesday, July 24 and concludes Saturday, July 27. Participating boats select two of the four days to head offshore to fish. With poor sea conditions predicted for today, most boats are expected to do their fishing later in the week.
Members of the public are invited to the Clubhouse to watch the weigh-ins each day of the contest. The weigh-ins of the fish run from 4:30-8:30 p.m. There will be food trucks along with live music to make each day festive. In the past large billfish, giant tuna, and even sharks have graced the scales. These daily weigh-ins are a great time to view some of these fish.
The event winds up on Saturday with a gala party and the awards ceremony at 9 p.m.
