WARETOWN, NJ – Some Ocean Township pups may already have their tongues hanging out in anticipation. Meanwhile, reports that a dedicated area is going to the dogs also has some humans more than a little bit happy.

At the Township’s September Committee Meeting, Deputy Mayor Ken Baulderstone shared the news. “The Township has the Jurisdictional Determination from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the Township of Ocean Dog Park,” said Baulderstone.

The DEP recommends submission of Jurisdictional Determination requests for specific activities on specific sites. According to the deputy mayor, the DEP will not require a CAFRA permit. The only restriction appears to be that supplementary parking cannot be added to the site.

The Ocean Township Dog Park will be situated at the Waretown Memorial Recreational Park. Located at the Waretown Lake, the dog park will be set up in the back across from the tennis courts. Township authorities plan to meet with the Superintendent of Public Works and Township Engineer in the near future to move the project to the next stages.

“I’m thrilled to hear about the dog park right in our backyard,” said Nancy Caira, a Township resident. “Ocean County runs a phenomenal dog park in Berkeley. When you are ready to put guidelines and regulations in place, I suggest you turn to them for some top-notch ideas.”
