TOWNSHIP OF OCEAN – The Township’s Police Benevolent Association (PBA) and Waretown Fire Department already regularly work side by side. However, in less than a month, they’ll be joining forces as they put together a “horse of a different color.” Their first Night at the Races fundraiser promises an evening of fun at Greenbriar Clubhouse, 1 Heritage Circle, Waretown on August 10, 2019.

Police officer Jeremy Samuel, one of the organizers of the event explained the reason for the fundraiser. “It allows us to help others through our General Fund,” said Samuel. “We give out different types of donations, including scholarships. We also contribute to the funding of the Township’s Junior Police Academy.”

Horses will be off and running on the screen rather than in person.  Once the betting is closed, attendees turn their attention to prerecorded footage of actual races to see where their horse comes in. The event mimics the sounds and feel of watching from the stands at the racetrack.

The excitement begins when the doors open at 6pm. Participants must be over the age of 21 to join in the fun. Tickets are $65 per person and can be obtained in advance by contacting Mark Houck at 609 207-8362 or Jeremy Samuel at 848 525-7921.  Tickets will also be available at the door.

The Night at Races includes dinner and offers a cash bar, as well as a 50/50 drawing. Also featured are auction-style gifts.

“It’s our first of many to come,” shared Samuel. “It should be a lot of fun.”
