LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP - A summer highlight for the LBI area is the annual Coquina Jam held on Sunday, July 28th (no wave date August 4th) to celebrate female surfing and support a great cause! The Coquina Jam is an all-female surf contest and fundraising event.
The event takes place at the 68th Street Beach in Long Beach Township. It is the same street as the Long Beach Township municipal office complex.
This year's 11th Annual Coquina Jam, presented by Hackensack Meridian Health – Southern Ocean Medical Center.
Female surfers are paired into teams and then compete through a bracket-style tournament together. The 64 entrants are split into two age pools of younger and more experienced surfers, then randomly selected and paired (see pairings below).
The Coquina Jam has donated over $70,000 thanks in it's history. The gifts come from participants, beach goers, and regional business support/sponsorship.
2019 is a big year for two great charitable organizations. The Jetty Rock Foundation and David's Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation, each has surpassed a million dollars in charitable donations since their inception a few years back.
