BASKING RIDGE, NJ - The Ridge 11U baseball team needed extra innings to hold off Flood City of Pennsylvania for a 6-5 victory in seven innings Thursday afternoon in 2018 Cal Ripken Middle Atlantic Region Tournament at the Ridge Baseball Club Complex.
It was the first victory in pool play for Ridge, which lost a pair of close games on the first day of the regionals on Tuesday.
Ridge built a 5-2 lead after five innings, but Flood City rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game, 5-5. The Red Devils scored once in the seventh and held on for the victory.
Nicky Sellitti was the winning pitcher for Ridge with 6 2/3 innings. Sellitti also pitched six innings in a 1-0 loss two days earlier. Matthew Martine drove in two runs for Ridge. Martine and Sean Henry each had two hits in the victory.
If Ridge can beat North Colonie (N.Y.) Friday in a game scheduled for 12:30, the Red Devils can clinch a berth in the elimination round of the tournament, which begins Saturday.
