Basking Ridge Awakens as State Police Investigate Triple-Fatal Crash on Interstate 287

BASKING RIDGE, NJ - The quiet was shattered as emergency vehicles responded and the New Jersey State Police investigate a triple - fatal crash that occurred on the northbound lanes of Interstate 287 in Bernards Township, at approximately milepost 29. The roadway is currently closed with traffic being detoured off of exit 26. Expect partial and total closures during the next few hours due to the investigation and cleanup and additional traffic on local roads on the west side of Warren.

The following is preliminary information only provided by the New Jersey State Police as an on-going investigation is being conducted at the crash scene.

There were at least three vehicles involved, including a pick-up truck with a trailer containing cows, a passenger car, and a multi-passenger van
-19 people involved (Preliminary)
-3 deceased out of 19
-2 DOA
-5 transported to Morristown Memorial where 3rd victim pronounced and 2 with serious injuries, but in stable condition
-9 transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Somerset with non-life-threatening injuries
-2 transported to Overlook Hospital in Summit with non-life-threatening injuries
-1 refused medical treatment at the scene
-Some cows deceased, others transported from scene

Due to the extended time required for investigation, police said preliminary findings are expected to be issued no earlier than mid to late Sunday morning.
