Bernards Community Art Show Opens In March At Mayor's Arts Award Reception

BERNARDS TWP., NJ - This year's Community Art Show, the "Inspired by Nature" exhibit of selected Bernards Township artists, is scheduled to open this Saturday, March 19, at the Somerset County Environmental Education Center, located at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge.

The exhibit will remain open through through April 24. The EEC is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., including weekends, but will be closed on Good Friday, March 25, and Easter Sunday, March 27. 

Mayor's Arts Awards to be announced at exhibit's opening reception

The public is invited to attend an opening reception at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, at the EEC. The 2016 Mayor's Art Awards for recipents who were nominated by the public prior to the end of January will be announced at that time.

Registration is closed for the exhibit  Artwork was submitted by township residents, age 16 and older, to register to exhibit in this non-juried show. 

The annual Mayor’s Arts Awards honors both individuals and organizations (with a category for students who live in Bernards Township) demonstrating exemplary leadership in and dedication to the fine and performing arts in Bernards Township.

Nominations were open to all residents of Bernards Township and those who work in or for the arts primarily benefiting the residents of Bernards Township. Recipients of the student award are eligible if they live in Bernards, even if they are attending an educational institution outside of the township. 

This year's mayor is Carol Bianchi.

Nominations for the annual art awards were to be reviewed and awardees selected by a panel comprised of Bianchi; Recreation, Parks & Pathways Advisory Committee Members; and Bernards Township Parks and Recreation Department staff.
