BERNARDS TWP., NJ - The Bernards Township planning department confirmed last week that township Planning Board Chairman Jeffrey Plaza has resigned from the board, effective May 18. Two other board members, Paula Axt and Leon Harris, also resigned, township officials said.

Plaza had just been reappointed as board chairman at the beginning of 2017. Plaza's term was due to run through the end of 2020.

Axt's appointment ran through the end of 2018. Harris was due to serve on the board through the end of this year.

Mayor Carolyn Gaziano said in an email on Wednesday that the board members had not yet been replaced.

Plaza presided over at least part of many of the major cases heard by the board in recent years, including the plans for the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge for a mosque in Liberty Corner.
