BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ Bernards Township police issued the following police blotter report on June 8:
On June 3, at approximately 11:26 a.m., Township Officer Frank Girard stopped a vehicle that allegedly had an expired registration at the Exxon gas station on Martinsville Road, township police reported. The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old man from Basking Ridge, was subsequently arrested and charged with allegedly possession of marijuana (under 50 grams), possession of drug paraphernalia, and with operating an unregistered vehicle.
A home on Butternut Lane was burglarized at some time during the overnight hours on Saturday night into Sunday, June 3, township police said. A preliminary investigation revealed that no one was home at the time a forced entry was made, police said. Jewelry located in the home was reportedly taken. A 2012 Toyota Highlander was stolen from a driveway on Ellis Drive during the overnight hours of last Sunday into June 4, township police said. The East Hanover Police Department spotted and pursued the vehicle later that evening at which time a driver and occupant in the vehicle described as a black male and black female allegedly fled on foot and not apprehended. It was also discovered that a 2006 Honda Pilot in the driveway of the same home had been broken into, township police said.
Police had issued an earlier press release on Monday, June 4, about the previous weekend's reported vehicle theft and numerous motor vehicle burglaries called in as having occurred during the overnight hours into Sunday, June 3.
Police urged residents to be more vigilant about locking their vehicles, and to take care not to leave valuables in view in cars.
The vehicles that were illegally entered in the northern section of the township included Cherry Lane, Walnut Circle, East Craig Street, Ellis Drive and Berta Place, police said. All of the vehicles that were burglarized were unlocked. Cash and other valuables left in the vehicles were reported as stolen, according to police.
On Tuesday, June 5, at approximately 11:35 p.m., Township Ofc. Philip Jasina arrested a 55-year-old Basking Ridge man on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI), police said. The driver allegedly was driving on two flat tires when another motorist contacted police. The resident was subsequently stopped and arrested on Summit Drive, police said..
Bernards Township Police are asking everyone to report suspicious activity they observe by calling 908-766-1122. Residents are asked to pay particular attention to suspicious activity at neighbor’s homes, police said.
