BERNARDS TWP., NJ - The Bernards Committee voted this week to earmark $150,000 already in the budget to upgrade the duct system at the township police headquarters at 1 Collyer Lane - but not before one resident asked for a more detailed explanation of why the work is needed.
On the same night, the Township Committee gave approval for the work to be performed at a cost of $140,104 by AllRisk Inc. of Somerdale. The bid was made through the Middles Regional Educational Services Co-op.
Before the committee vote for approval, resident Todd Edelstein said that the township resolution to allocate money for the job should "explain why we are spending $150,000 for duct work."
Following the meeting, Township Administrator Bruce McArthur said that the headquarters building had been built in the 1980s, and moisture had encouraged the growth of mold in the ducts. He said part of the duct system would be replaced, ventilation improvements would be made, and those that ducts that are not replaced will be lined.
