BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, New Jersey, May 20, 2017 – The Bernards Township Democratic Committee (BTDC) was proud to participate in the town’s annual Charter Day festivities. The community met the BTDC with an overwhelming show of support after an absence in recent years. Charter Day attendees had the opportunity to meet several members of the committee including Chair Nancy D’Andrea and Vice Chair Gregory Begg as well as the Democratic candidates for this year’s township committee election, Sally Booth and Joan Harris.

“This was a beautiful day for the BTDC.  There was a lot of interest and positive energy toward our group,” reflected Mrs. D’Andrea, “It was promising to hear the comments of support. Two that stick out are, ‘I thought I was the only Democrat in town,’ and ‘I finally have a voice.’”

Sally Booth and Joan Harris took the opportunity to talk with residents, business owners, and community organizations about living and working in Bernards Township. “Charter Day is such a wonderful day to reconnect with all the residents of Bernards Township. I am always impressed and grateful for the wonderful people of this diverse community.  It would be an honor to serve,” said Sally Booth. “I enjoyed meeting with members of our community and listening to their concerns and hopes for our town. Their warmth and enthusiasm was overwhelming, and it is what certainly makes Bernards Township a great place to live,” added Joan Harris.

Also present at the event were Democratic hopefuls Alex Avellan, candidate for Somerset County Freeholder; Lacey Rzeszowski, candidate for NJ Assembly District 21; Jill LaZare, candidate for NJ Senate; and Peter Jacob who ran in the 2016 Congressional election District 7.

The BTDC booth offered many activities including a Bernards Township Trivia Contest and face-painting for children.  Those who were interested were able to get information about the newly reformed BTDC, but more importantly, they were able to connect with fellow Democrats to work toward having an equal voice in our local government.
