Bernards Township 'Inspired By Nature' Community Art Show Opens This Weekend

BERNARDS TWP., NJ - The sixth annual Bernards Township Non-Juried Art Show will begin this Saturday, March 18, at the same time this year's mayor, Carolyn Gaziano, announces the winners for this year's Mayor's Arts Awards in several categories. 

The show will continue through Sunday, April 23, at the Environmental Education Center, 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. The reception to open the show and announce the awards is scheduled to be held from 11 a.m. to noon this Saturday.

On display in the exhibit hall will be a wide variety of media and family-friendly subject matter created by Bernards Township adult residents. The theme of this year's show, coordinated by the township Parks & Recreation department, is "Inspired by Nature."

The exhibit will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for Friday, April 14 and Sunday, April 16, 2017. Admission is free.

The Somerset County-owned EEC building is located on 500-plus acres of Lord Stirling Park, located in the western portion of the region's Great Swamp. The EEC facility features 8.5 miles of trails and boardwalks, a year-round schedule of programs and exhibits for children and adults, an environmentally-based library, and gift shop. 

Visitors to the art show can also visit the new “The Great Swamp Experience” recently opened on the lower level of the EEC, featuring interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. That exhibit also is open daily, between 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free. The permanent exhibit just opened in February.
