BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ - This Wednesday saw the debut of Bernards Township's revamped television channel on Cablevision and FIOS, with more features to be added, and continuous programming between broadcasts of meetings or other events. Emergency announcements can be posted as well.
The expanded programming is integrated with the Bernards Township website, and will feature coverage of municipal meetings and special events such as the first speech of the year by the township mayor. There will be rebroadcasts of some programming, such as Planning Board meetings or information from township police, said Christopher Kyriacou, township Information Technology Director.
Kyriacou and Hank Cheng, the township's Information Technology Manager, gave the Bernards Township Committee a rundown on the new version of the township's television program on Tuesday, the night before it went live. The Bernards Township television station is on channel 15 on Cablevision of Raritan Valley, and channel 35 on the FIOS network, Kyriacou said.
Photos, Information, Meetings, Emergency Announcements
The township's television format, developed by the township's information technology, has started by filling the time between scheduled township meetings and special announcements with photos from around Basking Ridge.
In addition, the channel will run information on upcoming events and activities in Bernards Township for the following 14 days.
The standard programming runs in cycles of slides, but new information, including special announcements, can be added or subtracted, Kyriacou said.
Kyriacou said the revamped television programming was handled in-house by the township's information technology department.
Most recently, the television channel had been dark between meetings, Kyriacou said. Announcements previously had been posted by the Bernards Township School District. Kryriacou said the township school district now will be doing its own television programming on other channels.
