BASKING RIDGE, NJ - Although Colonia is one of the premier boys basketball programs in Middlesex County year after year, Ridge seems to have its number.
The Red Devils held Colonia to 16 points over the last three quarters and scored a convincing 46-29 victory at home Tuesday night.
It was the second time in the last three seasons that the two teams have met, and Ridge held Colonia under 30 points in both contests. Ridge beat Colonia, 48-26, at Kean University in January 2017.
Sophomore guard Gavin Kreitz scored 14 points and senior guard Nate Herrera had nine points for Ridge, which trailed, 13-8, after one quarter before taking things over with a 12-2 run in the second quarter. Jayden Hylton led Ridge on the glass with 10 rebounds to go with seven points. Colonia is 17-5.
Ridge has been seeded eighth in the Somerset County Tournament and will play its first tournament game against either Franklin (9) or Somerset Tech (16) Saturday afternoon at Ridge High School.
