BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ _ Local schoolchildren undoubtedly know this already, but everyone else should be aware: There will be lots of kids around during the day for the long holiday weekend, since Bernards Township schools are closed on both Friday and Monday, May 22 and May 25,  for a long holiday weekend.

But maybe the kids will be heading to the Bernards Township pool, even if it's still a little cold to jump in. The town pool at Pleasant Valley Park opens for the season this Saturday at 11 a.m., and will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, according to the schedule posted on the Bernards Township website.

The website also said memberships at the Pleasant Valley Pool, located in the park off Valley Road, are available for this season. Potential members do not need to be accompanied by a member, the usual requirement, to try the pool on next Saturday and Sunday, May 30 and 31, for the cost of a guest pass, the website says.
