BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Somerset County Employee Wellness Committee is partnering with EmPoWER Somerset for the 5th Annual 5K Race to Wellness and 1-mile Fun Walk for county residents March 24.
The event, according to a release, is being held rain or shine at 9 a.m. at Duke Island Park, on Old York Road.
The 5K race is USATF certified.
"Each year, the county Employee Wellness Committee and EmPoWER Somerset do a great job of coordinating the 5K Race to Wellness for the benefit of the community," freeholder Patricia Walsh said in the release. "I encourage residents and county employees to sign up with their friends so they can have a good time while taking advantage of the health benefits of exercise."
In addition, four-time Olympian Joetta Clark Diggs will lead a warm-up before the start of the race.
Those who pre-register will pay a $30 entry fee, and those who register by March 13 will receive a free long-sleeve t-shirt. The fee for residents ages 60 and older, and for those ages 19 and under is $20.
On the day of the race, registration increases to $40.
In addition, free goody bags will be distributed, and prizes will be awarded to top finishers.

Proceeds from the race will benefit Somerset County non-profit organizations, including EmPoWER Somerset, Somerset County Tourism and the Somerset County 4-H Association.
The county Wellness Committee is dedicated to improving and maintaining the general health and well-being of employees.
