BASKING RIDGE, NJ - On senior night, it was a junior who provided the margin of victory for the Ridge girls soccer team.

Sam Weyrauch scored a left-footed goal from 8 yards out in the second half to give Ridge a 1-0 victory over Pingry on Tuesday night. Katie Grierson made four saves for Ridge. In addition to it being a night to honor Ridge's seniors, the game had added significance for the Red Devils, who won the Delaware Division of the Skyland Conference.

On Saturday, Ridge (10-4-2), the defending Somerset County champions, lost to Watchung Hills in the Somerset County Tournament semifinals. Watchung Hills will play Pingry (11-3) for the county title next Saturday. Tuesday marked the first meeting between Ridge and Pingry this season, and a victory over the other county finalist provides Ridge with significant momentum going into the state tournament.

Next week, Ridge will open defense of its Section 2, Group 4 championship when the state tournament gets under way. The Red Devils will host a first-round tournament game against Linden next Tuesday.
