Girls Tennis: Ridge Loses to Watchung Hills, 3-2, in Sectional Final

WARREN, NJ - The Ridge girls tennis team was looking for its second consecutive sectional title, but the Red Devils fell, 3-2, to Watchung Hills in the Section 2, Group 4 championship round on Tuesday.

The match was the third meeting of the fall between the two Somerset County rivals. The teams had divided a pair of 4-1 decisions in the regular season.

Navya Yemula was a decisive winner at third singles for Ridge (14-3) by scores of 6-1, 6-0. The Ridge tandem of Camila Scharlach and Tira Alvarez also won their second-doubles match, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.

Ridge had reached the final with a 3-2 triumph over J.P. Stevens in the semifinals. Ridge won both doubles matches that day to put the Red Devils over the top. Yemula also won at third singles against J.P. Stevens.

Watchung Hills moves on with a 15-2 overall record.

Second Doubles: Camila Scharlach and Tira Alvarez, Ridge, def. Elyssa Van Houtte and Emiline Fahmy 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.
