BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The Ridge girls volleyball team, after a semifinal showing at the Northern Valley Demarest Tournament last weekend, won the Bloomfield Invitational with a 25-18 victory over southern NJ powerhouse Williamstown.
Ridge captured firstst place in pool play, losing just one set to Caldwell. Having received a bye into the Gold Bracket. Ridge then promptly lost to Williamstown in the first playoff match. Due to the double elimination format, Ridge had to fight its way out of the losers bracket by winning its next five matches beating Westfield, J.P. Stevens, Hudson Catholic, Colonia, Union Catholic to set up the rematch against Williamstown in the finals.
Thirteen hours and 13 sets later, Ridge outlasted the other 19 teams to win its first Bloomfield Invitation tournament. Ridge looks to carry that momentum this week against Bridgewater-Raritan and Watchung Hills in Skyland Conference play.
Ridge beat 2017 Somerset County finalist Mount St. Mary 25-7, 25-12 on Friday. Ridge received offensive contributions from a deep lineup, Erin Caricich, Kristen Hodges and Angela Pan, each with two kills. On defense, Angela Huang and Lauren Metzner were the standouts with Metzner also leading the team with two aces.
