BRIDGEWATER, NJ – Grape Expectations, recognized as the oldest “Make Your Own Wine” establishment in Somerset County, will host wine tastings the next two weekends for those curious about wines made from grapes harvested in South Africa and Chile in South America.

Tastings are scheduled Saturday, Feb 24, from noon- 4p.m.; Friday, March 2 from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday, March 3 from noon-4 p.m. Orders will be taken at each of those times.

The growing seasons in South Africa and Chiles are the opposite of those in California and Europe when grapes are usually harvested in September and October; the grapes from those two countries, both in the Southern Hemisphere, are harvested during North America’s winter season.

The wine tasting will also include cheese and crackers. There is no admission charge.

The Grape Expectations staff will explain the four-step process of producing a barrel of wine, from crushing, pressing, racking and bottling over the course of 9-12 months. A full barrel will produce 280 bottles; smaller shares, including quarter-barrels, are available

Grape Expectations will host wine tastings later in the year for grapes harvested in California and Italy.

Hundreds of families and organizations bottle their own wines during the year, affixing their own personalized labels.

Grape Expectations is located at 25 Kearney St., off Chimney Rock Road between Main Street and Route 28.
