Hazardous Weather Outlook for Basking Ridge Area

Basking Ridge, NJ - National Weather Service is estimating Rain Today and major flooding. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 40. Breezy, with a north wind 13 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible. Tonight Rain.

A winter storm is expected to hit New Jersey with peak impacts on Tuesday. The storm, which will eventually bring high winds and a wintry mix of rain, sleet, and perhaps some snow, will stall with effects lasting into Wednesday and possiblyThursday. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch, Wind Advisory and Coastal Flood Warning beginning Tuesday morning for Basking Ridge and the surrounding areas.  A Nor’easter is forming off the Carolina Coast and is expected to track slowly north off the coast of New Jersey.  The National Weather Service is forecasting Warren to receive 2-3 inches of rain on Tuesday.

The storm is forecasted to bring strong winds out of the north and east.  Wind guests in the South Plainfield area are forecasted to be near 50 miles per hour by late Tuesday morning.  Wind gusts are expected to cause localized power outages. 
 
Residents are urged to take appropriate precautions and drive safely. 
 

The utility companies urge customers to be cautious if they see downed lines. Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Do not approach or drive over a downed line and do not touch anything that it might be in contact with. 
 
Be prepared:
 
Charge your cell phones, tablets and other mobile devices.
 
Fill up your car’s fuel tank.
 
Ensure you have a battery-powered radio and a supply of fresh batteries.
 
Check your supply of flashlights, blankets, nonperishable food and bottled water for everyone in your family.
 
Put your refrigerator and freezer at the coldest setting. Keep a blanket handy to throw over these appliances for added insulation. If electricity is interrupted, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible.
 
Compile a list of emergency phone numbers, including PSE&G’s Customer Service line: 1-800-436-PSEG. Call this number to report power outages or downed wires. Customers can also report power outages and view the status of their outage by logging in to My Account on www.pseg.com. JCP&L customers should dial (800) 545-7738.
