BASKING RIDGE, NJ — While the NJSIAA currently is still planning to proceed with a delayed start to the fall sports season, there will be no Somerset County Tournaments in any fall sports in 2020.
According to a story in NJ.com Wednesday, athletic directors in Somerset County convened virtually and decided to forego county championship tournaments for boys and girls soccer, field hockey, girls volleyball and track and field.
The season, which normally would get under way right after Labor Day, has instead been pushed back and will not begin until the beginning of October this season, a decision the NJSIAA made earlier this summer.
The Ridge girls volleyball team has won the last three Somerset County Tournaments, 2017-2019. The Ridge girls soccer team reached the Somerset County Tournament final for the third time in five years in 2019.
The status of the NJSIAA state tournaments in the condensed fall season has yet to be finalized.
