Rutgers Emergency Medical Teams assisted in first aid services for Dowd, who was then rushed to Robert Wood Johnson hospital. The tragic news traveled throughout Holmdel Sunday evening as the community was in disbelief. Jack Dowd’s father Sean Dowd is an English teacher at Holmdel High School.

Holmdel High School students, teachers and administration devastated by the news had an extremely difficult day to face today. Counseling services and assistance were made available to students. In an email this evening Holmdel High School principal William Loughran says, “Today was a terribly sad day for the entire high school. The Dowd family has touched so many lives in our community and we are all devastated by Jack’s passing.”

Village School Principal Brian Schillachi wrote, "we were saddened to receive the news that Jack Dowd, an 11th grade student at Holmdel High School died suddenly yesterday.  As a school community, we are deeply saddened by this loss and offer our support and condolences to the Dowd family."

"Last night the Holmdel Lacrosse Community was shattered by the loss of one of our brothers," stated a Facebook post from the Holmdel High School Boys Lacrosse team. "Condolences to the Dowd family. Rest in peace our #9."

In a letter yesterday evening from Holmdel’s Superintendent Robert McGarry confirming the tragedy to the school community, it was mentioned that “The Dowd family has asked that I share this news with you and ask that you respect their privacy at this extremely challenging time.”

TAPintoHolmdel&ColtsNeck sends their deepest condolences to the Dowd family.
