MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Ridge ice hockey team's bid for a spot in the state championship game at The Rock fell one game short.
Morristown defeated Ridge, 3-2, Wednesday at Mennen Arena in the semifinal round of the NJSIAA Public A state tournament. Morristown will advance to Monday night's championship game at the Prudential Center in Newark.
It was only the third loss of the season for Ridge.
Morristown (23-3-1) opened the scoring with a goal by Teddy Dolan and went on to take a 3-1 lead in the first period. Ridge's goal in the first period by Marc DelGaizo with 7:53 left tied the game, 1-1.
Morristown was scoreless over the final two period, as Ridge dominated the puck but couldn't forge the tie. Gary Prince scored with 5:27 left in the second period to bring the Red Devils (23-3-4) within 3-2.
