ICY MONDAY AM COMMUTE EXPECTED; NJ Transit Cross-Honoring Passes, Tickets

Basking Ridge, NJ - A winter weather advisory is issued by the National Weather Service from between 1 a.m. Sunday night until 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12.

  • Sunday into Monday - Snow and sleet likely before 4 a.m., then periods of freezing rain. Low around 24. Southwest wind 3 to 5 m ph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected. 
  • Monday - Periods  of rain or freezing rain, becoming all rain after 11 a.m. High near 36. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.

In anticipation of the expected winter weather conditions, systemwide cross honoring of NJ TRANSIT rail, light rail and bus passes/tickets will be in effect for Monday, Jan. 12, NJ Transit announced on Sunday.

To give customers additional travel options during the anticipate weather conditions on Monday, NJ TRANSIT will enable customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, light rail or bus—including private bus carriers. 

According to NJ Transit, a regular schedule on public transportation systemwide is expected to be run on Monday, with modifications to the schedule possible as conditions change.

However, NJ Transit added that every effort will be made to continue operating bus service throughout the state, customers may experience, and should plan for, delays or detours on their routes in the event of extreme winter weather conditions.
