TRENTON, NJ  - Lawmakers are expected to vote Thursday to restore wages lost by state workers during the July 4th holiday weekend when the state government was forced to shut down because of a budget impasse with Gov.Chris Christie.

State Sen. Christopher “Kip” Bateman (R-16) issued the following response to Christie's remarks in support of legislation he sponsors to provide retroactive pay to public employees who were furloughed during the government shutdown:

“I am relieved to see that Governor Christie is open to signing our bipartisan legislation to protect state workers,” Bateman said. “Not one of the tens of thousands of public employees who were furloughed during the shutdown deserves to have their paychecks cut. They were ready and willing to go to work, even when the government was not. Hopefully, we will be able to take immediate action to ensure they do not suffer any more financial repercussions as a result of this unnecessary shutdown.”

The bi-partisan bill is also sponsored by Senate President Stephen Sweeney and Sen. Linda Greenstein, D-14.
