To the Editor:

Somerset County residents, you deserve a round of applause for all you do throughout the year! In 2016 you donated more than 32 tons of food during Curbing Hunger Month, more than 5 tons of food to our monthly "BOBO Fridays" collection and over $18,000 to the annual Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Family program, plus hundreds of school supplies to "Project First Class," children's clothing to "Project Warm Your Heart," clothing and personal-care items to the "Point in Time" program for homeless residents, and holiday-season gifts to "Toys for Tots."

Thousands of you participated in our free document-shredding programs, household hazardous waste, recycling and tire drop-offs, and medications disposal opportunities this year.

A shout-out also to our dedicated volunteers in programs such as Meals on Wheels, senior centers, fall clean-up for elderly and disabled residents, Handyman Program, tutoring, 4-H Fair and 4-H Clubs, CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams), MRC (Medical Reserve Corps), tax prep and SHIP, to name a few, and to the many volunteer members of our advisory boards and commissions.

On behalf of the Board of Chosen Freeholders, I wish everyone a safe and healthy new year and thank you for your generosity, caring and sense of community.

Sincerely,

Patricia L. Walsh
Somerset County Freeholder Director
