Marine Corps, Coaches Host 4th Annual John Basilone Bowl June 30th at Somerville High School

SOMERVILLE, NJ – Marine Corps Recruiting Station New Jersey and the Somerset County Coaches Association will host the 4th Annual Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone Bowl game on June 30th at Somerville High School at 7 p.m. Ridge High School will among those high schools to contribute players to the game.

 
The Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon will perform a free pregame show starting at 5:30 p.m. 

The Silent Drill Platoon exemplifies Marine Corps discipline, precision and skill. Members of the Silent Drill Platoon are handpicked to represent the Marine Corps. Through intense practice, they learn to perform precise rifle drill movements flawlessly for audiences across America—without a single verbal command ever being spoken.

The game will feature high school senior football players from 15 different schools in Somerset County. The schools include: Bernards, Bound Brook, Bridgewater-Raritan, Franklin, Hillsborough, Imaculata, Manville, Montgomery, North Plainfield, Pingry, Ridge, Somerville, Watchung, North Hunderton and Delaware Valley.

Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone, of Raritan was awarded the Medal of Honor in recognition of his outstanding heroism at Guadalcanal. Later, during the Iwo Jima campaign, he was killed in action on D-Day, Feb. 19, 1945.

The Bridgewater-Raritan High School Field House is dedicated to his memory.
