BERNARDS TWP., NJ - Two Summer Horse Care workshops for those who are seeking to gain knowledge and confidence around horses through a combination of hands-on experience and non-riding activities are being offered by the Somerset County Park Commission at Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge.
Horse Care Workshops 102 and 103 are scheduled be held beginning Saturday, July 29 (providing weather does not delay currently running programs) at Lord Stirling Stable, 256 S. Maple Ave. in Basking Ridge. The fee is $60 for Somerset County residents and $90 for non-residents for either workshop.
Classes will meet for five consecutive Saturdays, and are scheduled to end on August 26. Workshop 102 will meet from 10 a.m.. to noon, and workshop 103 will meet from 1 to 3 p.m., according to the Somerset County Park Commission
Students in Workshop 102 will build upon experiences gained in Workshop 101, which is a prerequisite for the second class.
Advanced topics in Workshop 102 include nutrition, clipping, bandaging, and basic conformation. The important roles the farrier and veterinarian play in a horse's life will also be discussed.
Workshop 103 will further develop care and management skills while increasing knowledge of equine behavior. Workshop 102 is a pre- or co-requisite for 103. The classes may be taken concurrently. There is no riding involved in either workshop.
Registration is now open and will be available up to the opening day of the workshops as space permits.
