ROXBURY, NJ - The Ridge 12U baseball team won the Northern New Jersey Cal Ripken State Tournament with a 5-4 victory over Cranford in the championship game Wednesday night.
The Red Devils will move on to compete for the regional crown next week when that tournament begins in Mount Olive.
Ridge reached the final with a 9-2 victory over Edison Tuesday night in the North Jersey semifinals. In that game, Connor Byrne and Brendan Callanan combined on a four-hitter and Ridge scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break the game open.
In the victory over Edison, Byrne allowed three hits and one earned run in 4 2/3 innings, striking out six batters, and Callanan allowed one hit and struck out two in 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Steven Dresner went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Adam Meiner had a double and two RBI. Will Deady and Callanan also knocked in two runs apiece. Julian Kielb and Andrew Reynolds also had hits for the Red Devils,
