MILLBURN, NJ – The classic love story of Tony and Maria in West Side Story came to the Paper Mill Playhouse to a sold out Opening Night performance. This is the final musical for the season and will continue to run through June 26.
The clean-cut Matt Doyle plays Tony and the beautiful Belinda Allyn plays Maria. Both lead a company of talented actors such as Mikey Winslow as Riff, Natalie Cortez as Anita and German Alexander as Bernardo.
Mark Hoebee, Paper Mill’s Artistic Director, directed this talented cast, giving the Millburn audience a Broadway caliber show. The ensemble is with original choreography by Alex Sanchez.
The Millburn stage was transformed into New York City in the ‘50s as the young lovers are torn by their loyalties to rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks. The Romeo and Juliet based musical is a ‘can’t miss’ show and a terrific way to end a successful Tony award-winning season for Paper Mill.
“The radioactive fallout from West Side Story must still be descending on Broadway this morning. Jerome Robbins has put together, and then blasted apart, the most savage, restless, electrifying dance patterns we’ve been exposed to in a dozen seasons.”
