SOMERVILLE, NJ – Police are searching for a suspect who walked in to the ShopRite Supermarket on West Union Avenue in Bound Brook Tuesday morning demanding money from a cashier after claiming he had a gun.
No weapon was shown by the suspect.
Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson provided the following account:
Bound Brook Police arrived at the store after receiving a phone call at 9:28 a.m. concerning the robbery. Employees told police a man approached the cashier, claimed he had a weapon and demanded money. The cashier gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of currency. He exited the store and drove away in a dark colored sedan.
The suspect was described as being white, approximately 5’5” tall, medium build, wearing tan shorts, a black and grey hooded sweatshirt, and white sneakers
Detectives from the Bound Brook Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit are investigating the robbery. Authorities have released an image of the suspect from the store’s security camera and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
Robertson warned against approaching the suspect as he may have a weapon.
Somerset County Crime Stoppers, Inc. is offering a reward of up to $250 for information regarding the suspect’s identity and his arrest.
