BASKING RIDGE, NJ - Scrimmages are under way in advance of the Ridge High School sports season.

In one of the more high-profile matchups of the pre-season, the Ridge girls' soccer team defeated Scotch Plains-Fanwood, 2-1, on Thursday. Both teams are expected to contend for the North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 championship.Two days later, Ridge played Somerville to a 1-1 tie.

On Tuesday, Aug. 30, the girls' soccer team will scrimmage West Morris Central on the road in Long Valley at 10 a.m. At the same time, the varsity football team will be hosting Morris Knolls in its game scrimmage, the last one before the regular season begins. The field hockey team will be in action at Millburn in an 11:30 a.m. scrimmage Tuesday.

The varsity boys soccer team will take on Wayne Hills in a road scrimmage on Thursday at 4 p.m.
