BASKING RIDGE, NJ - It's time to sign up for this summer's annual “The County Caper," an event that provides both family fun and an opportunity to learn about Somerset County's wide array of county parks.

Once again, there will be two County Caper events hosted by the naturalists at the Environmental Education Center, 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge. Registration is required.

The adult only (age 15 years old and up) County Caper Accelerated! is scheduled to take place stating at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18. The one-day Family County Caper is due to be held between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19. 

Saturday’s County Caper Accelerated! is a one-day game that takes adults on an interactive tour of Somerset County Parks and facilities. Participants will be physically and mentally challenged while completing fun tasks and finding hidden clues throughout the day as their team races against the clock. 

Sunday’s Family County Caper is a one-day game that takes families and friends on an interactive tour of Somerset County Parks and facilities. This local version of “The Amazing Race” takes teams to various destinations within Somerset County. Once the teams arrive, they need to perform tasks, find clues or gather information. Each team will be given a journal to collect stamps and/or record their findings.

Participants are urged to take photos of the county's parkland along the way. Events are rain or shine.

Registration should be made by Aug. 14

The fee is $20 per team and is non-refundable. Registration is required by Tuesday, Aug. 14, and can be made at www.somersetcountyparks.org or by calling 908-722-1200, ext. 5002.

The County Caper is designed to encourage area residents to explore, learn and protect their county parks and other natural areas in their own region. The County Caper programs are sponsored by Whole Foods Market.
